The Greater Manchester Local Heritage Listing website is now live! Local residents are being invited to nominate buildings or sites they believe to be of importance to their community. This may be because it contributes to the area, has historical associations, is a local landmark, or is just important to the local community. These could include an interesting local building, a cherished local memorial, public art, or simply a historic feature like a milestone or a local park. Once accepted onto the Local List, these buildings and sites can be given greater consideration in the planning system.
The project is funded by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government and encourages communities to identify local heritage for recognition and inclusion on a Local Heritage List. The central aim of the Greater Manchester Local Heritage List Project is to better recognise locally important heritage assets throughout the county. To do this we want to encourage everyone to be involved and sign up to the project. We need residents and local communities and groups across Greater Manchester to go out this autumn and identify local heritage and to nominate those candidate buildings and sites through our dedicated new website. Anyone can now register on the website and submit nominations for inclusion on the Local List. No experience of heritage assessment is necessary. The website can be accessed here: Home – Greater Manchester Local Heritage List (local-heritage-list.org.uk)
